CHARGERS Swim & Dive SENIORS CELEBRATE WITH A WIN

The Shorecrest Chargers Swim and Dive team concluded their regular season with a wonderful celebration of the senior swimmers and divers. The evening began with a team dinner at the pool provided by the awesome senior team parents. In a room decorated with balloons and giant headshots of each swimmer, the underclassman took turns sharing their thoughts about each swimmer and diver. So many nice things were shared by these teammates (who for some were also siblings) that there were not many dry eyes by the end of the dinner. Coach Patty also shared her thoughts and stories about each and congratulated Sophie E., Taylor E., Sarah M., Trinity W., Reagan Q., Will H., Tanner W. and Dominic H. on their many accomplishments over the course of their years with the team.
Later on during the dive break, our seniors were again recognized in front of family, friends and fans. Anthony McCall, Shorecrest’s Athletic Director, was kind enough to be there to present flowers to senior moms and Coach Patty gave each swimmer an embroidered towel. Many thanks to announcer Dennis Leary for reading the swimmer/diver bios and parting thoughts. The break concluded with the divers doing a 50 free swim and the swimmers diving off the board, receiving a score of “10” for each dive. Finally, at the conclusion of the meet, sparklers were lit and a cake was shared to cap off a very fun Senior Night celebration!
Somehow in between all of the fun, a meet was held and the Chargers, true to form, won both the boys and girls meets! The girls team dominated with both the 200 Medley Relay (Emery C. ‘20, Ainsley B. ‘23, Taylor E. ‘19, Sarah L. ‘22) and the 400 Free (Emery C., Claire E. ‘23, Reagan Q. ‘19, Sarah L.) both taking first place.
Winning two events were: Taylor E. (200 IM, 100 Free) and Sarah L. (200 Free, 500 Free). Placing first in one event each were: Sophie E. (Diving), Claire E. (100 Fly) and Ainsley B. (100 Breast).
On the boys side winning two events was Joseph B. ‘20 (200 IM, 100 Fly) and taking first in one event each were: Misha M. ‘20 (200 Free), Dominic H. ‘19 (Diving) and Carlos G. ‘20 (500 Free). The Chargers 200 Medley Relay (Misha M., David S. ‘20, Caleb K. ‘20 and Joseph B.) was a first place finisher as well.
The “icing on the cake” for the evening was that both Sophie E. ‘19 and Dominic H. ‘19 broke the 6-dive school records, Sophie with a score of 295.25 and Dominic with a 357.50. Congratulations to both on this tremendous accomplishment!
Coming Up: Middle School Championship meet this Saturday at Tampa Prep and District Meet on November 3.
