Charger Commons
At the heart of the Shorecrest campus is Charger Commons, a sprawling 60,000+ square foot building. The first floor houses newly designed, bright, and playful classrooms dedicated to The Experiential School of Tampa Bay, Shorecrest's program for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. Additionally, students of all ages have access to two dining rooms, the Haskell Library and Technology Center, the nurse's Clinic, and the School Store.
The second floor of Charger Commons is mainly used by Middle School and Upper School students in the Smith Center for Innovation (with makerspace and robotics fields), Hess Library and Technology Center, Upper School classrooms, the Center for Academic Excellence, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Ohana Community Room, and business offices.
Along the front of campus is the Lower School, for kindergarten through fourth grade, with a playground, greenspace and Lower School Outdoor Classroom and garden.
Middle School grades 5-8 are in two buildings at the back of campus. Teachers in the Middle School have reimagined their classroom spaces to allow for co-teaching, cross-curricular learning, collaboration, and project work. The Sher and Razook Center for 5th and 6th Grades has classrooms; while the Middle School Center for Arts and Sciences includes classrooms, music and drama rooms, a robotics room, an art room with a kiln, and a covered outdoor pavilion.
Landy Hall, the Peck Center and the Arts Cottage
Landy Hall includes Upper School classrooms on 2 levels and the College Counseling Office. Adjacent to Landy Hall is the Peck Center for Medical Sciences with specialized furniture, equipment, and technology to engage students in an applied biological sciences curriculum. Nearby are more science classrooms and the Arts Cottage.
Athletics Facilities
Shorecrest Chargers athletic teams practice and compete on 4 fields around campus.
The Shorecrest Athletic Center includes a competitive gym, recreational gym, workout center, locker rooms, and office space for athletic staff.
The Janet Root Theatre
The Janet Root Theatre is a professional-level facility and centerpiece of Shorecrest's vibrant performing arts program. It is part of the Raymund Center which also includes Lower School art, music and Spanish classrooms, as well as offices for the Head of School, Admissions/Enrollment, Marketing and more.
Outdoor Spaces
At Shorecrest, you'll discover numerous outdoor playspaces, gardens and gathering spots throughout the campus. Our vibrant community often hosts events and performances on the Gaffney Green and within the Weiss Family Pavilion. A notable project, initiated by Walker Willis '19 during spring 2015, is The Native Classroom, which showcases our commitment to environmental stewardship. Walker and his Middle School peers transformed an underutilized section of our campus in a three-phase project which began with the removal of approximately 1,000 Australian Pines, an invasive species in Florida. Phase two involved planting 500 mangroves, cabbage palms, slash pines, and other native species to enhance habitat, preserve soil, and improve water quality. Finally, Walker enhanced an existing educational area by constructing a channel-side observation platform and providing a freshwater source. These improvements support classes studying nature and water ecology.
Safety, Security and Protection
Shorecrest partners with Allied Universal Security Service to continuously evaluate and maintain a school-wide comprehensive safety, security and protection program that retains the open and welcoming atmosphere of our independent school campus while enhancing all levels of safety for the Shorecrest community.
Our School Protection Officers are essential in the identification and prevention of instances before they occur. While trained and prepared for medical emergencies and physical assaults, the primary role of the officers is to know the community and support all aspects of the school safety operations without disrupting normal school activities. They are familiar, friendly faces able to offer assistance at a moment's notice.
Our Campus Safety & Security Coordinator is able to monitor our security cameras if an emergency were to occur. Shorecrest also utilizes an individualized, on-campus emergency notification system for all faculty and staff. The faculty receive regular training and guidance on best practices to ensure the safety of all students and visitors.
Visiting Campus
All visitors during the regular school day (7:30am-3:30pm), are required to check in at a school office or at the main reception desk in the Raymund Center. Upon arrival, visitors age 16 and over will be asked to present valid photo identification before entering campus. All visitors must visibly wear a photo identification badge issued by the office while on campus.
