Behind the curtains of the Janet Root Theatre an electrifying buzz fills the air as young performers rehearse. This isn't just a school play; it's a journey into a world where dreams take center stage and magic happens before your eyes! Shorecrest Middle School Performing Arts was thrilled to present Disney’s "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, JR." in Shorecrest's Janet Root Theatre on November 2-4, 2023.

This endearing fairy tale recounts the story of Belle, an adventurous young woman, and the Beast, her hideous captor who is actually a prince trapped under a spell. In order to break the spell the Beast must learn to love another and earn her love in return – before time runs out. Can the castle’s enchanted staff help Belle teach the Beast true courage and kindness? “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, JR.” also features classic songs from the Academy Award^®-winning film score as well as original songs from the 1994 Tony^®-nominated Broadway musical.

The cast of sixth-eighth graders was Directed by Matthew Belopavlovich, Middle School Theatre Teacher; and Stephanie McCarthy, Middle School Music Teacher, is Music Director and Choreographer. The young stars were thrilled to transport audiences to the enchanting world of Belle and the Beast, making them laugh with their antics, and moving them with heartfelt performances.

"As Shorecrest celebrates its Centennial, we thought it would be exciting to present this magical tale and revisit a production from the Middle School's 2010 season,” Belopavlovich shared. “We hope you join us for this iconic musical in the Janet Root Theatre."

Chargers have been pouring their hearts and souls into every note, every dance move, and every line. For many of these students, being part of "Beauty and the Beast, Jr." is a dream come true. They're living their passion for theater and storytelling, and that joy shines brightly in their performances. As they step into the shoes of iconic characters, they're thrilled at the prospect of making you laugh with their antics, and moving you with their heartfelt performances.
