Shorecrest Chargers Varsity Tennis Districts Results: Boys Champs! Girls Runners-Up!

The Shorecrest Chargers Boys Varsity Tennis Team dominated the Districts 1A Tennis Championship, April 17-18.  The Girl Varsity Team narrowly lost by one point. 

The boys starting line-up included Alex R. '28, Carter Ford ’25, Misha Drunov ‘24, David M. ‘29, and Jimmy Schmidt ‘26.
The girls line-up featured Nehir Cankaya ’26, Lucille P. ’28, Defne Cankaya ’26, Addison Cohoon ’25 and Isabella Jank ’27.

The girls team clenched three District Champion titles and two District Runner-Up titles. Lucille P. ‘28 was victorious for the District Champion title in #2 Singles and Defne Cankaya ‘26 in #3 Singles. Isabella Jank ‘27 and Lucille dominated in #2 Doubles. Addison Cohoon ‘25 at #4 Singles and Isabella at #5 Singles earned the District Runner-Up titles in hard fought, tie-breaking matches. Nehir Cankaya ‘26 at #1 Singles and Defne & Nehir at #1 Doubles also had strong performances in extremely competitive positions making it to the semi-finals, falling just short of a District title.

The boys team won their second Districts Championship in a row! Alex R. ’28 is District Champion for #1 Singles. Alex and Carter Ford ‘25 crushed their competition to win #1 Doubles.  David M. ‘29 is the #4 Singles District Champion. Jimmy Schmidt ‘26 won the #5 Singles championship taking commanding leads in all of his matches. Misha Drunov ‘24 and Jimmy collected points at #2 Doubles to clinch the win.

Alex R. ’28 and Carter Ford ’25 will both automatically compete at the State Championship.

All of the Chargers competed hard and made teamwork their priority.  The results say it all. The team is headed to Regionals next. Wish them luck!    

Coach Bob complimented the team saying, "I can't tell you how proud I am of this team and your accomplishments at the District tournament. Each one of you played hard to win your matches and the result is that we beat Berkeley by 3 points and Tampa Prep by 2 points. This is our second District Championship in a row!"
