Paul Goodland Retires
Upper School Math Teacher Paul Goodland recently announced his retirement. He shared the following with the Shorecrest community:
"In 1988, I began my journey as an educator here at Shorecrest teaching Honors and AP Chemistry, Precalculus, and Geometry, and coaching football and basketball. I taught many incredible students including Patrick Wilson, Dr. Michael Ison, and other successful leaders of today. It was perhaps the most exhausting year of my life, as I also had my baby girl that year.
My professional journey took me away from Shorecrest and into chemical process engineering for over a decade, patent engineering for 2 years, and eventually back into education as a teacher, mentor, and non-profit educational consultant, among other things.
In 2022 I had the opportunity to come back to Shorecrest as a math teacher and it was a great decision. Shorecrest is a magical place, with the magic being the effect brought by the amazing staff here.
Today is my last day teaching, as I am retiring at the end of this school year. It has been my profound pleasure to teach the amazing students here at Shorecrest, and I will always remember this capstone to my career with fondness for the wonderful kids and truly wonderful parents I had the pleasure of working with.
Thank you all for the memories. I hope to see you again in the future!"

He was also a development engineer for Essilor International from 1990-2000, and spent 2 years visiting manufacturing locations around the world as a technical correspondent. Paul has served as a regional coordinator for the Center for Educational Excellence and TURN; was a peer mentor for Hillsborough math and science teachers from 2011-2016; and a presenter on teacher evaluation practices at the American Federation of Teachers conference in 2016.
