Three Students Attend Young Women's Leadership Symposium

Upper School News

Three students from Shorecrest Upper School were excited to attend the Tampa Bay Young Women's Leadership Symposium in February in Tampa. The Mission of the Symposium is to promote the development of future women leaders by giving them access to influential business women in the Tampa Bay area. The Symposium focused on leadership, personal brand management and career/college planning in an environment where young women are encouraged to reach their full potential.

The Symposium was meant for female high school students from the Tampa Bay area with a passion for moving women's initiatives forward. Junior Libby H., one Shorecrest attendee, describes it as such, “The day started off by talking with a table of other young ladies from the area and getting to know a mentor. Then, there was a series of presentations from successful women.” In small group settings, the young women interacted with a coach - a female executive from an elite organization in the Tampa Bay area. Sessions included Choosing Your College Match and Know Your Value.

Shorecrest Junior Neha R. said the day was, “...a great conference where we sat and discussed with other young women from around Florida about being a leader. Speakers gave us lectures on making a mark on the world, having a personal "brand", and removing negativity from our lives. We also learned about the college admission process.”

“I enjoyed the symposium because it explained how there's no limit to what any of us can accomplish.” said Junior Multy O. “The speakers really emphasized the importance of believing in our own strength and abilities. Seeing all of these powerful women speak to us about what they've accomplished was really motivating and it made me want to be an important part of my community.”
