Upper School News

Shorecrest's Upper School SADD Club, along with our local State Farm agents, hosted a motivational speaker on Tuesday with a message worth hearing. Bobby Petrocelli was a high school teacher and coach, and one night someone else's poor decision changed his life forever. A drunk driver drove through his home, leaving Bobby in the hospital for months and killing his wife. Rather than focusing on the symptom of alcohol overuse, Bobby focuses on the problem - why people drink in the first place - and reminded everyone in the theatre that day of the worth and value of their health and life.

Bobby travels the country with his message. He shares how he fought through the darkness to triumph; how he drew upon his faith and friends; how he found forgiveness; and how he came to love again.

Many Upper School students commented on how powerful the presentation was. One senior said, "I believe his presentation delivered a special message to all of us, because we have all gone through struggles and been in that place where there seems no way out. The answer is never to give up on ourselves because we all have value and deserve equal opportunities."

To help the message hit home, SADD members remained after the presentation and handed out bags of popcorn to prom attendees with a label that read, "Don't pop pills, don't pop bottles, pop corn." With Prom coming up this weekend, SADD is hoping that the students attending will remember Bobby's message and treat themselves and others respectfully.
