A look at the Syrian Refugee Crisis with Google Cardboard

Upper School News

Mrs. O’Horo’s AP Human Geography students learned a great deal about the Syrian refugee crisis with Google Cardboard this week. After discussing some short videos and interactive maps about the crisis, they learned about the life of one Syrian girl in a refugee camp in Jordan through a virtual reality film called "Clouds Over Sidra." Google Cardboard and an app allowed iPhones to act as hand-held virtual reality devices in the clasroom.

The Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan is home to 130,000 Syrians fleeing violence and war. Children make up half the camp's population. The short film is narrated by Sidra, a 12-year-old girl who has spent the last 18 months in Zaatari.

This activity was just one is a series meant to help prepare students of AP Human Geography for their participation in a live webcast next week with Syrian youth in Lebanon.
