Cleaning Wanda the Watergoat

Upper School News

On Saturday, April 6, the Shorecrest Upper School Outdoor Club ventured out to Coffee Pot Blvd to clean up Wanda, the watergoat debris boom. Wanda is responsible for capturing the debris from the fresh water and keeping it from entering the Bay. The students involved were responsible for cleaning the watergoat, and cleaning from the northern part of Coffee Pot, up to the Snell Isle bridge. Along their journey they encountered lots of marine wildlife, including manatee. Cleaning the goat is important for the health of the manatee because they often eat the trash that comes along.

The Outdoor Club members - along with several Middle School students - worked alongside Keep Pinellas Beautiful and the Coffee Pot Watershed Alliance.
