Theatre Class Gets Behind Masks

Masks have been used in history for protection, disguise, performance, ceremonies, and entertainment. In Shorecrest theatre classes, each student picks a mask that they are drawn to. They then put on the mask and through a few minutes of meditation and slow breathing they are introduced to a mirror held up by the teacher, Mr. Leavengood. The student wearing the mask sees himself/herself for the first time and embodies the character of the mask by saying/doing whatever they feel the mask "tells them to do."
Theatre students make characters out of the specific mask we choose, and keep elaborating in their personality to create creatures different from each other. The masks then interact with other masks, and go through different activities such as show and tell, game shows, blind dates, etc. The purpose for this is to create our own characters, while working on acting, reacting and interacting with each other in an improv fashion.
Because students are quarantined and do not have access to the masks the class normally uses, students were tasked with creating their own mask for virtual theatre classes.
