Chargers Win at State History Fair!

The Florida History Day state contest was held at Tallahassee Community College on May 1-3, 2022. Each year National History Day selects a theme that is intentionally broad enough so students can select topics from anywhere in the world and any time period. During the 2021—2022 school year the theme was Debate and Diplomacy in History. Students were to ask questions about time, place and context, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance. First and Second place winners from the Pinellas contest advanced to the State competition.

39 counties competed at the State level. Shorecrest had entries in both the Website and Exhibit categories.

Jacob Mandell ‘23, Matthew White ‘23 and Dylan Winer ‘23 won first place in the website category for their work “Debate, Diplomacy and the Avoidance of Nuclear Armageddon: The 1956 Suez Crisis.” This is the second winning year in a row for Matthew White ‘23 and Dylan Winer ‘23 in the website category. They will move on virtually to Nationals in June. View their winning website here.

The team of Miles Lucas ‘23 and Taylor Register ‘23 won third place for their Exhibit board on the US overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1893, "From Hawa’i to Hawaii: Debate and Diplomacy and its use in the founding of the 50th State.”
