Shorecrest is excited to announce a unique opportunity to host students from Guatemala through Experiencias Interculturales, a well established organization that facilitates cultural exchanges for students. Students from Experiencies Interculturales stay with host families for eight weeks and will attend classes each day at Shorecrest.
Here are some of the objectives of the program:
- To develop fluency in the language. This is a great chance for the Guatemalan children to develop fluency in English, as well as, for the American children to develop fluency in Spanish.
- To promote and diffuse the American and Guatemalan cultures, broadening horizons for the knowledge of both cultures.
- To provide the participants with a friendly environment so they enjoy a special time and make very good friends.
- The participants will share a bilateral cultural enrichment project through a series of activities such as: a PowerPoint presentation with information about their country; a documentary video made by them in which they will show a historical place; written booklets with information about traditions and history, for example: the Mayan Civilization, Guatemalan costumes, Guatemalan food, etc,
This is a great opportunity for your son/daughter to connect with someone from another part of the world, practice their Spanish, and make a new friend! We are looking for 2-3 families willing to host a student from October 15 - December 11. The hosting family will receive a $1200 stipend to help cover expenses.
If your family is interested in hosting a student from Guatemala, please email Dr. Jean Spencer-Carnes at [email protected] ASAP.
