Shorecrest School

Following Alice at FTC

Arts Upper School News

Shorecrest Upper School Thespians traveled over the weekend to Sante Fe College in Gainesville where they performed in the Florida Theatre Conference's Theatre for Young Audience's Festival. Their one-act was FOLLOWING ALICE, a "moving theatre" adaptation of Alice in Wonderland written and directed by Bill Leavengood '78.

FTC administrators said it was the first interactive, moving theatre project in their 61 years of existence. Audiences actually followed Alice inside and outside the theatre complex as she journeyed through Wonderland!

Shorecrest received several awards including:

  • Jonathan D. and Campbell S. being selected for the All-Star cast
  • Mario G. winning the Best Supporting Actor award
  • the ten Shadows/Crew (Charlotte L., Natalie F., Hannah B., Campbell S., Anna P., Aliyah S., Reilly K., Camille A., Reilly O, and Shannon W.) receiving a Judges Special Award for their work creating living chairs, tables, trees, rabbit holes, croquet wickets, sound effects and card soldiers

Many thanks to Brad Miller (set design/tech director) and his tech students; volunteer parent Anne Dowling (prop design) and her crew (Melissa Greene, Derek Hess, Julia Barton, Ryan H., Aliyah S.) and Renee Savage (costumes) and her crew (Katherine Houston, Meredith Leonhirth, Margaret Phares) and Producer Cheryl Lee.
