SPARC Club at Night To Shine

Upper School News

Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience for people with special needs ages 14 and older. On February 7, 2020, Night to Shine was hosted by over 600 churches from around the country for approximately 100,000 honored guests through the support of 200,000 volunteers! Night to Shine is sponsored by The Tim Tebow Foundation.

A few members of Shorecrest's Upper School SPARC Club volunteered for the event at Kapok Special Events Center; and two shared their thoughts, below.

This was my second year at Night to Shine, and it still was as amazing as last year. In fact, I saw my buddy from last year, and she remembered me as well. She gave me the biggest hug, and welcomed me back! This year I shared a buddy with Brenna Dukes ‘21, and her name was Victoria. She was a little shy, but once we got on the party bus she jammed out to the music like a rockstar. My favorite moment was definitely dancing to the last song the DJ played because the parent chaperones dropped balloons from the second floor. It was one of those movie moments where you feel so humbled, and happy to be where you are! I am excited to attend next year, and hopefully get more students to participate in this fun experience!

Night to shine is 100% one of my favorite nights of the year. You walk into the Kapok Tree, and are immediately blown away by the small waterfall and statues, and the inside is just as beautiful. My buddy was named Matt, and he was probably one of the sweetest people ever. The first thing we did was dance and request his favorite song, and then I took him to sing karaoke to "Arms Wide Open" by Creed. After that we met up with his girlfriend, Courtney, and his girlfriend’s buddy. From there we ate and he and Courtney danced. At the end, all of the guests’ parents dropped balloons down from the second floor.
