Shorecrest School

Thank you Volunteers! [Video]

SCA News Upper School News

Each spring, the Shorecrest Community Association hosts an appreciation breakfast to thank all school volunteers for what they did to make the school year so special. Although the annual Volunteer Breakfast was canceled, we still wanted to celebrate everyone who gave their time and talents to Shorecrest this year.

The video below has special messages from the SCA Co-Presidents and kudos from Headmaster Mike Murphy.

The volunteer breakfast is also when the annual recipient(s) of the Janet Root Volunteer Service Award is announced each year. One of last year’s winners, Anne Dowling, presented the 2019-20 award in the video below. The winners were all surprised with gifts at their homes earlier this week.

The Janet Root Volunteer of the Year Award was established by the Shorecrest Parent Association in 1984, as a commemoration of Janet’s countless volunteer efforts and as a means of recognizing other outstanding Shorecrest volunteers. We continue Janet’s legacy by honoring those who have shown an outstanding volunteer commitment to Shorecrest.

"This year there were so many strong candidate for this award, amazing people who gave tirelessly," Anne explained, "But there were two very different who personified the best of Janet Root, especially Janet's work ethic and ability to inspire others to be more - and be their best. Between the 2020 award winners they cover single Shorecrest committee and bring over 30 years of combined volunteer service to Shorecrest. despite their divergent interests and skill sets, these two women share two very important traits - their selfless dedication and an all-giving, no glory attitude. Second, their ability to inspire others to volunteer, and make the people they work with feel appreciated and valued. They are the whole package! These women have touched so many people.

"Please join me in congratulating two noble leaders, whose contributions deserve a cacophony of sustained clapping - Andi Mullins and Karen Quilty. Congratulations to you both!"

At the volunteer breakfast a new SCA Board is also instituted. Many thanks go to the 2019-2020 SCA Board for all of their time and hard work! Co-Presidents Tara Gaffney ‘96 and Nuria Lisa Hahn; Vice Presidents Lindsey Lamb & Jennifer Phelps; Secretaries Corrie Stover '90 & Jennifer Casanta; Treasurers Jaren Wright & Sam Soth; and Volunteer Coordinators Samantha Nevins & Rebecca Armacost. You have brought so much warmth and community to the school year and we can't thank you enough for helping Shorecrest be more!

The incoming SCA Board for the 2020-2021 school year will share a lot of officer duties with the following pairs:
Co-Presidents:   Jennifer Phelps and Lindsay Lamb
Co-Vice Presidents:   Christy Stross and Kirsten Fisher
Co-Secretaries:   Mandy Rutledge and Natalie Spada
Co-Treasurers:   Sam Soth and Alex Lavoie
Volunteer Coordinator: Rebecca Armacost

Volunteers truly are the HEART of Shorecrest. Taking the time to help our community and our students is an amazing way to show spirit and commitment. Look for information sent to all families late in the summer regarding ways you can get involved next school year at Shorecrest. Thank you to all of our special volunteers!

This Teacher Appreciation Week, the faculty and staff at Shorecrest have a special THANK YOU to SCA for recognizing them throughout the year. From car washes to massages to gifts of flowers and gift cards - SCA was sure everyone working on campus felt appreciated all year long. We've loved the surprises this week as well. Thank you!
