GSI Students Engage at TBCFR

Upper School News Diversity & Inclusion

Three Shorecrest Upper School students in the Global Scholars Initiative, William Brockman ‘24, Sabrina Everhart ‘25 and Story Pennock ‘24, joined History Teacher Mr. Heller for a lecture hosted by the Tampa Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations (TBCFR). Ian Easton, the key speaker from Project 2049 Institute, discussed the conflict scenarios and implications for the United States if Taiwan falls to China. The three Chargers jumped right in and engaged with the speakers and other attendees.

Notably, Sabrina spoke in Mandarin with Bryan Stern, Co-founder of Project DYNAMO, (an organization that helps people evacuate from conflict zones such as Ukraine and Afghanistan). William spoke in Korean to an active duty South Korean Army Colonel. Story also added to the robust attendee discussions. Mr. Heller remarked that this was the most participatory and highly engaged group of students he has ever taken to a TBCFR event.

The students also interacted with graduating seniors from University of Tampa and USF, and networked with Tampa Bay business people and academics.

The TBCFR is a part of a nationwide organization that advances non-partisan public dialog and education on a variety of foreign relations topics by promoting energetic, face-to-face discourse between foreign policy experts and members of Committees around the country.
