Kriseman Inspires Leadership Development Honors Students

Upper School News

Rick Kriseman, former Mayor of St. Petersburg, presented to Shorecrest Upper School’s Leadership Development Honors students this week. Mr. Kriseman has a wealth of experience in various leadership positions, most recently as the Mayor of the City of St. Petersburg. His primary focus during the presentation was on the significant roles innovation, embracing change, and taking calculated risks play in leadership. He shared anecdotes from his time in office, illustrating that “challenging the process” is not just a phrase but a practice worth exploring. He even quoted the late Jimmy Buffet’s song Oysters and Pearls, “Some people love to lead, And some refuse to dance. Some play it safely, others take a chance.”

Mr. Kriseman's presentation emphasized the importance of innovation, adaptability, and perseverance in leadership. He showcased how our sunny city had undergone transformative changes under his leadership, all driven by a commitment to challenging existing norms. Students left the class armed with the knowledge that sometimes the most remarkable changes begin with a simple act of challenging the process.
