HomeTeam Hot Shot: Greyson P, male winner for Nov. 1-7

In the Press

Greyson P capped off a successful high school season by playing some of his best golf at the Class A state tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills last week. The Shorecrest junior opened with 2-under 70 at Mission Inn Resort despite windy conditions and was tied for first place. He followed that with a second-round 77 to finish fourth overall, just four shots behind the winner.

“I just couldn’t get anything going (in the second round),” Porter said. “Still, finishing fourth against some very good players on a very tough golf course is something I’m proud of.”

Porter was also instrumental in leading the Chargers to their first region championship and state tournament appearance.

As a sophomore, Porter tied for 15th at Deer Island Country Club despite shooting a stroke better than this season. He remained consistent in 2014. After shooting 79 at the district tournament, Porter rebounded to shoot 2-under 70 at East Lake Woodlands and win regionals.

“Getting to the state tournament was a goal of mine when the season started,” Porter said. “Once you get here you know you’ll be playing against some very good players.”

Why he won: Porter’s two-day 147 placed him fourth overall in the field of 96 in Class A and helped Shorecrest to an eighth-place finish in the Chargers’ first state trip.
