Shorecrest Prep's Peter L completes perfect season with state gold

In the Press

Shorecrest Prep junior, Peter L idolizes the No. 2 player in the world, Roger Federer.

"He's pretty calm out there," said Peter. “He really doesn't let anything get to him."

With that same demeanor Pete, ranked third in the state by USTA (United States Tennis Association), captured the overall Class 1A singles gold medal. This is his first ever high school state title.

"It ranks pretty high up with my favorite accomplishments in tennis,” said Pete. "What makes it one of the best is that I got to represent my school."

After not making it past districts a year ago, not only did Pete win a state championship, he did it in perfect fashion. Peter didn’t drop a single set all year.

"Winning every match is a great accomplishment in itself,” said Peter's private coach Goran Dragicevic. “Winning in straight sets is even tougher because you know you can't have any letdowns, which speaks to his mental strength and his focus."

"You can't really let anything up in a set, especially in high school tennis,” said Pete. “I mean things can go by so quickly if you're not focused."

Verbally committed to Brown, Peter isn’t focusing on himself for his senior season.

"Definitely the next accomplishment would be getting the team to go to states because I've already done everything I can on my own,” said Peter.
