Students tour All Florida Orthopaedics

Upper School News

In November, Mrs. Peck's Anatomy & Physiology Honors students were able to take a tour of All Florida Orthopaedics. This organization is privately owned by a large group of doctors, with almost twenty physicians who work at AFO. Shorecrest has a very strong relationship with this facility, as a few of the doctors are Shorecrest parents.

Brandy, an athletic trainer, started the morning with a tour of the overall facility, showing some of the radiology machines, such as the C-arm which is a CT scan machine, and other patient areas. Next, Dr. Canizares explained that the patients at AFO are almost all out-patients, so they are able to come in for surgery and leave later the same day. This is mostly because the facility is not set up for in-patients like hospitals are because they have fewer patient rooms.

The tour ended with Dr. Canizares and Dr. Pagano, both Shorecrest parents, explaining how they met in medical school and their paths crossed again later on in life when they were both working in St Petersburg. Dr. Canizares invited Dr. Pagano to join the team at AFO, and the rest is history! The Anatomy & Physiology students really enjoyed the tour and learning all about the way that the All Florida Orthopaedics facility works.
