Upper School News

On Thursday, April 26, the Shorecrest Alumni Association and the Shorecrest Athletic Department co-hosted the inaugural Charger Hall of Fame awards. Alumni, current students, parents and friends mingled over hors d'oeuvres before heading into the Janet Root Theatre for an awards ceremony.

Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee Chair Jim Vigue '89 hosted the awards, which honored Shorecrest athletes both past and present, reminding Chargers young and old of the rich athletic tradition in our community.

Although this was the ninth class of inductees into the Shorecrest Athletic Hall of Fame, it was the first time current students and parents were able to join in on the induction festivities. Five alumni were honored at this ceremony. Hunter Glaum '93, Clay Hall '90, Byron Kiefer '98, Tony Lazzara '98, and Jeff Ritch '01 were all recognized for their success as student athletes at Shorecrest. Former coaches, teammates and friends of these alumni presented them for induction, reminiscing about long, hot practices, tough-fought victories, friendships made and lessons learned.

The evening was not only about reliving the glory days - eight current student athletes were also honored with a Charger Hall of Fame award for Outstanding Achievement in Athletics. Athletic Director Jeff Raab and Assistant Athletic Director Matt Thompson presented awards to two students in each Upper School class:

The final award of the evening was the Coach of the Year Award, presented to a current Shorecrest coach. The recipient for 2017-18 was Boys' Soccer Coach Jason Montoya who led his team to the Florida State Final Four this year. Jason said a few thoughtful words, but then asked his team to come to the stage to formally accept the award.
