Shorecrest International Day 2019 (photos)

Upper School News

The month of May started with a new event on the Shorecrest calendar – our first campus-wide International Day. Spearheaded by our Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Roderick Avery Fludd, and organised by parent volunteers from Shorecrest's International Connection Committee, the event brought together students, faculty/staff, parents/guardians, alumni and performers from around the world.

Chargers of all ages were invited to attend, gaining an insight into customs, pastimes, sports, landmarks, language, calligraphy, traditional dress, food, beverages and more from 34 different countries represented by the Shorecrest community – a reminder of our rich cultural diversity. During the event, students had the opportunity to learn Bollywood and Flamenco dancing, take part in Taekwondo and drumming activities, listen to Arabic music, and cheer on our very own fourth, fifth and sixthgrade language students who took to the stage to perform traditional and modern songs and dance from France and Latin America.

Lower School students took great pride in collecting country stamps and stickers in their ‘passports’ and Experiential School students were given mini globes to mark the occasion.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers - Parents/Guardians, Upper School students, alumni, faculty/staff and maintenance team – and especially the International Connection Committee - for uniting our community in such a memorable and vibrant way! Thank you as well to our volunteer photographers for capturing the fun.

Countries represented:
Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Columbia, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Guyana, Ireland, India, Israel, Italy, Laos, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Venezuela and Vietnam.
