Honors Physics: A Day at the Races

Upper School News

Shorecrest Upper School students in Honors Physics built energy cars with cardboard and rubber bands. When a car is wound up, it has elastic potential energy stored in the rubber band which turns into kinetic energy -- the energy of motion.

Students took measurements that allowed them to calculate the speed and energy of their cars. Cars had to travel a minimum distance of 2 meters. Several cars reached over 4 meters! The winner of the distance competition was Ellis Hart '24.

The cars were decorated at home. The winners of the best looking car were Reanna Hossain '24 with her Starry Night car and Maria Happ '24 with her Cowmobile.
