Making time to volunteer on the MLK Day of Service is a great way to engage with others in your community while honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Team up with other members of the Shorecrest community to lend a hand at the MLK Dream Big parade. Chargers will gather on Monday, January 16 to enjoy the parade together, and then support in clean-up efforts at the conclusion of the parade. The parade begins at 11am. Please meet at 10am at the corner of First Ave. South and Fifth Street wearing Shorecrest green and gold gear.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up and take action to create the community of Dr. King’s dream. While Dr. King believed an equitable community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His dream for this change is, was, and will continue to be in the service of others.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived his life serving others. Following his example, millions of Americans serve on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Observed each year on the third Monday in January, MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. At schools, a local shelter, or lending a hand to help our neighbors, his vision of neighbors working together to build a better future is brought to life. Shorecrest strives to be exemplary in our service to others, and often extends that passion to our amazing city of St. Petersburg.
