Fourth Grade Visits ECHO Farms

The fourth grade took a field experience day at ECHO Farms in North Fort Myers, exploring ways that sustainable farming connects to their curriculum. ECHO (Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization) is an organization committed to ending world hunger by helping people use what they have to get what they need. They are focused on developing and teaching eco-friendly farming practices to people around the world.

Students toured the farms that simulate six separate areas of third world climates. Docents explained the farming techniques specific to these different cultivation environments including: tropical lowlands, tropical highlands, monsoon, semi-arid, rainforest clearing and urban garden. Students had the chance to see, touch and taste various plants through an informative, hands-on tour.
