Iconic St. Pete: Downtown & The Pier
January 22, 2015
As the next segment of our "Iconic St. Pete" Willis Leadership Lecture series, Upper School students, faculty and friends heard from Emily Elwyn, President of St. Petersburg Preservation and Shorecrest parent. She spoke about the city's waterfront parks, downtown and the Pier -- past, present and future. The students were engaged and had lots of questions.
Mrs. Elwyn started by quoting Winston Churchill, who said, "We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us." She also mentioned that although she did not want to move to the area, once here she quickly fell in love with St. Pete's unique features. Many of the students could relate to the sense of place she felt St. Pete has, because they have wonderful memories attached to the area.
