Building a Stronger Shorecrest: Introducing the Shorecrest Community Association

August 21, 2015
Effective July 1, 2015, the organization formerly known as Shorecrest Parent Association (SPA) is now Shorecrest Community Association (SCA).
“The people involved in our students’ lives have always been a broader group than just parents they are teachers and coaches, grandparents and relatives, caretakers and friends. It is important that our organization’s name reflect all of the people who enrich the lives of Shorecrest students and our school community,” says SCA President Kristin Leary.
The Shorecrest Community Association (SCA) will carry on and expand the many important traditions that SPA began provide volunteer support for teachers, host fundraising and social events, offer parent education opportunities and so much more.
All members of the Shorecrest community are automatically a part of SCA and are invited to participate in the ways that are fitting for them. “Just like the name is more inclusive,” continues Kristin, “we want our meetings and events to feel that way, too.” SCA meetings will be held monthly, alternating days, times and locations to accommodate families with a variety of schedules. As in the 201415 school year, meeting presentations and information will be available online on the SCA page of shorecrest.org, or www.shorecrest.org/community. There will also be opportunities to attend events or meetings virtually.
“There are so many ways to get involved, there really is something for everyone,” says SCA Vice President Shaheen Hemsey. “Volunteering is a great way to get to know the Shorecrest community, parents, teachers, staff, etc. We are committed to involving and welcoming everyone who is interested to participate in SCA.”
