Shorecrest School

Hail to the Class of 2016

Head of School Letter

On Sunday the Class of 2016, their families and friends, Board of Trustees and faculty will participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Our graduates and their parents will inevitably hear many congratulations and expressions of gratitude. For families with students in lower grades, the following is an example of what could be in store for your children.

Of the 84-member Class of 2016,
  • 13 have been at Shorecrest since Alpha (15 years!)
  • 37 are "Lifers", having been at Shorecrest for 12 years or more
  • The Average GPA is 3.77 and the Average ACT score is 28
  • Members of the class will attend 51 colleges and universities in 18 states, Washington, D.C and Canada
  • The Class has 4 National Merit Finalists, 3 National Merit Commendations and one National Presidential Scholar Finalist
  • 8 seniors will graduate with the Global Scholar distinction
  • 12 will participate in collegiate athletics
  • 21 have been named to All County Teams for their sports
  • 4 are members of the National Championship Sailing Team
  • Members of the senior class broke 18 school records in the past school year
  • The Basketball Team with 6 seniors received an Exceptional Sportsmanship Commendation from an FHSAA official
  • The Class of 2016 has served over 14,113 hours of service
  • 9 of the seniors had over 300 hours of service.
  • 30 of the 84 completed service work overseas in Thailand, Peru, Uganda, Argentina, Haiti, Costa Rica, Cuba, France and South Africa
  • Individual members of the class provide over 100 hours of service to: St. Pete Parks and Recreation, Boy Scouts of America, The American Cancer Society, the Morean Arts Center, Veterans programs and tutoring programs for younger children at Shorecrest
  • 5 won major awards in the Scholastic Art Competition for playwriting, photography and painting.
  • Four seniors received the Critic’s Choice or highest ratings for their singing, dance and performances at the State Thespian Competition
Along with all these accomplishments, I join many of my colleagues and the parents of these seniors to say the Class of 2016 are really nice people. One parent recently commented on how wonderful it is when a group of the seniors gather in his home. We have enjoyed their spirit, energy and talents. We have high hopes for them as they spread out to make their marks at universities, in careers and in their communities.

Cheers!

Mike
