Art Expression in The Experiential School

Art in The Experiential School is open-ended and creative, with lots of room for imagination and exploration. It includes the development of appreciation for the talents of others. While there are daily opportunities for free art with a wide variety of art media and utensils, our Junior Kindergarten students are also introduced to the works of major artists. In Lower School, this is done by parent volunteers each month in a program called Picture Ladies and Gentlemen. After observation and discussion, the children express themselves through a related art experience.

Recently, students viewed Old Locomotive by Lyonel Feininger and talked about creating drawings and pictures using shapes in a way similar to the artist. By gluing colored shapes on paper and adding details with crayons, each child created a unique work of art that they described to their classmates during the following art share.
