First Grade Learns about Eyes

Lower School News

As the second stage in their study of the body, first graders dissected a cow’s eye with Upper School Medical Sciences Teacher Lisa Peck. They watched the dissection and learned about the different parts of the eye. The part that shows the color is called the iris. Light reflects to the back of the eye and remains in focus by the lens. We learned why some people wear glasses and why their eyes see differently. They need an extra lens to help them focus. The Sclera is the white part and filled with a jelly substance to give it shape. It is very strong and can not be easily cut or punctured.

Last week our dissection lesson focused on the brain.
