Big Day for Shorecrest Sailing!

Upper School News

With only two regattas left on the schedule, the Shorecrest sailing team traveled to Davis Island in their hunt to advance to post-season competition.

Led by Elizabeth Shanahan '19 and her crew of Karlei Kongsiri '19, the varsity Chargers held a top 5 position against 22 other schools in early racing. However, as the day wore on and the conditions lightened, the sailing got trickier. It was then that skipper Heather Kerns '20 with the support of her crew Zuri Patel '20 displayed some masterful tactics to win the final race of the day. The team’s performance strengthened Shorecrest’s position in the league rankings going into their final regatta next weekend in Jensen Beach.

Meanwhile, Middle Schoolers Guthrie B. and Ethan D. handled the skippering duties for the JV team. With the help of crew members Thomas C. and Sydney J., the Chargers won the JV regatta handily! Although league rules require eighth graders to only sail JV, our young Shorecrest skippers beat the majority of the varsity squads on the water! It looks like the tradition of excellence in Charger Sailing will continue into the future.
