Shorecrest Seniors Celebrate National College Decision Day

Upper School News

May 1 is National College Decision Day, the day many colleges and universities request a commitment from incoming students. Members of Class of 2018, as well as faculty and staff, wore their college t-shirts to campus to celebrate another great year of college placement success. 73 students will attend 47 colleges in 19 different states + DC, Canada, and the UK.

"I love this day because, for us [the College Counseling Team], it's both an ending and a new beginning," says Tiffany Blessing, Director of College Counseling & Student Leadership. "We are so excited to celebrate the successful ending of the application process, which is years in the making! It's also a celebration of the new beginning of our students' lives after Shorecrest."

She adds, "The t-shirts give the students the opportunity to connect with faculty and staff over a shared loyalty to a school, and see the long-lasting influence that these schools, or even regions of the country, have on their lives."

On Friday, May 18, the full Shorecrest school community will celebrate our seniors with the Senior Celebration Walk. Launched in 2017, this new Shorecrest tradition allows our full PK-12 campus to honor our graduates together as they parade proudly through campus. The event begins at 11:30am. Parents of underclassmen are welcome to join their children along the parade route. Parents of seniors are invited to gather in front of the Janet Root Theatre to cheer on their graduates!

According to Mrs. Blessing, "On May 1 the picture of the overall graduating class is just beginning to form. It's not the final version, but more like a dress rehearsal for the full picture that comes later in the spring."

The full class profile and matriculation list will be published after graduation and showcased in the last issue of Ebytes for the year on May 25.
