Have you ever spent time observing children while they build using blocks or other stackable objects?
These little engineers are testing their theories about the way the world around them functions.
Building and demolishing become equally important as the kids test new ways to design and execute a plan. An abstract idea becomes a concrete object, and often, alongside comes a story.
Spatial awareness at this age is the way children learn how objects are positioned in space in relation to their bodies. It is how kids navigate the world and manipulate the surrounding space.
Often at The Experiential School a teacher will incorporate other elements, such as a projection, a movie, or a background, to enrich the building experience.
As they stack blocks and tell their stories, the students begin to learn concepts such as location, direction, and distance.
