GIRLS VARSITY TENNIS REGIONALS RUNNER-UP!

Upper School News Athletics

The Shorecrest Varsity Girls Tennis Team finished the 2022 season with a solid Districts victory, a win at the Regionals semi-finals, and runner-up for Regionals overall. Way to finish out an extraordinary season!

The line-up for the Regionals finals featured Kareena Dua ‘23 1 Singles, Olivia J ‘27 2 Singles, Lucille P ’28 3 Singles, Alex M ’26 4 Singles, and Addy Cohoon ’25 5 Singles. The 1 Doubles team included Kareena and Olivia. The 2 Doubles team included Lucille and Lauren Majeski ’22.

Going into the finals, Coach Tommy had some very inspiring words for the girls about the season:

“When it mattered, you all came together and played as a team. In the most crucial moments you all understood that you were playing for something bigger than yourselves – all of your teammates. You are all very different individuals. Different backgrounds, different upbringings – even from different parts of the country… but you have all accepted each other, respected one another, and played for one another. That is the most important lesson… more important than winning or losing.”

On a breezy day at the Lake Padgett hard courts, everyone gave it their all and fought hard for every point. Across all matches, many games reached deuce. But in the end, the Shorecrest team was outmatched by Berkeley Prep. The coaches are proud of all of the Chargers, including Addy Cohoon ‘25 who scored a total of 5 games against her opponent and the 2 Double team of Lauren ‘22 and Lucille ‘28 who scored a total of 3 games against the opposing team. Everyone contributed and the Regionals Runner-Up trophy was well-earned!

Both Coach Bob and Coach Tommy agree that every year the team improves. “We are proud of our achievement and look forward to next season!” they shared.
