Dr. Tim Hart, Professor of Criminology at the University of Tampa and Shorecrest parent, presented to Ms. Ashley Dernbach’s Honors Geometry class on the use of probability and statistics in the field of criminology.
Through a hands-on crime mapping activity students learned firsthand about crime concentration, forecasting and hot spot analysis. Students learned how probability is used to evaluate accuracy of crime forecasts and better allocate city resources.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to learn about real-world careers that "unexpectedly" include math.
