Head of School Letter: College Decision Day

Head of School Letter Featured 1

Wednesday was May 1st, National College Decision Day, when we honor our seniors as they celebrate their choice of next school by wearing T-shirts and sweatshirts with the names of their college destinations. Faculty and staff joined in the tradition of representing their alma mater as well. Middle Schoolers also had the option to observe May 1st; they had a chance to break from their normal dress code to wear a shirt from their favorite college.

The Class of 2024 has many options for the next step in their educational journey. In a year of highly competitive college admissions, our Chargers will enroll at some of the most selective educational institutions in the nation and around the world. Many members of the Class of 2024 took advantage of only-at-Shorecrest opportunities to personalize their learning through signature programs including the Global Scholars Initiative, STEAM Signature Program, or student-created independent studies, all of which differentiated our seniors’ applications to selective institutions.

The diversity of interests and talents within the Class of 2024 is reflected by their choice of colleges. Shorecrest seniors will matriculate at Ivy League schools, small liberal arts colleges, large state universities, private universities and schools abroad. Shorecrest will also be represented at the United State Military Academy at West Point. Seniors earned prestigious and financially generous scholarships for their many talents and accomplishments. One student received the prestigious Morehead Cain scholarship, and six students in our graduating class were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, seven students or 10% of our graduating class, will compete in intercollegiate athletics at their schools, representing Shorecrest on their collegiate volleyball, sailing, soccer and swim teams.

A number of students have found a home at the University of Florida, a school dubbed by Forbes Magazine as “a new Ivy.” This year, 54% of Shorecrest applicants were accepted to UF, more than double the 23% overall rate of acceptance to what is now considered a top 10 state university.

A complete list of acceptances for the Class of 2024 and where they chose to matriculate is available on the Class of 2024 page of the Shorecrest website. As we march toward Commencement on May 18, new photos, articles and updates will be added.

Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We join with Shorecrest parents and families in saying how proud we are of our seniors’ accomplishments. We are confident that each member will represent Shorecrest well in the future, as this class charges ahead to embark on a new and exciting phase of collegiate life.

All the best,

Nancy
