Head of School Letter: Welcoming Shorecrest Grandparents and Special Friends

Head of School Letter

Today we hosted our 40th Annual Grandparents and Special Friends Day, a beloved Shorecrest tradition. More than 600 grandparents and special friends of Shorecrest students came together on campus to experience and enjoy a slice of Shorecrest life alongside their loved ones who attend school here. Seeing Shorecrest through the eyes of our visitors, this event always leaves me feeling such pride in our students, teachers and community. While many of today's guests were familiar faces around campus, others traveled from far off places just for this special event. Whether it was your first event or your fortieth, grandparents and special friends - you're officially Chargers!

Grandparents and special friends play an important role in our extended Shorecrest community. Many volunteer through the Shorecrest Community Association (SCA), Helping Hands, or events; or connect through our Grandparent Gatherings, formerly known as the Grandparent Council. Others stay connected to the School and their favorite students from afar, subscribing to Shorecrest newsletters, following us on social media, or just getting regular photo or videochat updates from their families here in Florida. As many wonderful ways as there are to stay connected, from near or far, nothing can replace that unique experience of seeing your special students in person here on campus, meeting their friends and teachers, seeing their classrooms and projects, and for some, even sitting in the tiny chairs in The Experiential School!

It is impossible to choose a favorite moment from today's joyful event, though a highlight was certainly the morning performances, capped off by a sneak peek song from "The Addams Family," our upcoming Upper School musical. I look forward to seeing the full show - alongside many grandparents and special friends - in the coming weeks, April 10, 11, and 12.

Our students clearly relished hosting their families and friends on campus today; I loved seeing them glow with that Shorecrest Spark!

All the best,

Nancy
