Conditions remained wet and overcast for the second round of the Class A boys state tournament at Mission Hills Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills. But Shorecrest's Greyson P didn't let the conditions, or a lengthy rain delay, thwart his attempt at a state title Wednesday.
Greyson shot 3-under 69 on the El Campeon Course and posted a two-day total of 73-69—142. It ended up being one shot short. West Palm Beach King's Academy junior Andrew Kozan matched Porter's 69 and had a two-day total of 141.
"I pretty much played the best round I could," Greyson said. "I made the turn at 1 over and then got on a little bit of a roll."Greyson, a senior who has committed to Florida State, figured he needed a good back nine to be in contention. He made that happen when he birdied the 14th-17th holes to get to 3 under. Greyson had a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole that just missed.
"Burned the edge," he said. "I didn't know at the time that I needed to make that putt to tie."
As a junior, Greyson tied for fourth after shooting a final-round 77. His 69 Wednesday tied Kozan for low round of the day.
