Shorecrest School

Welcome French Students!

Upper School News

Did you notice the French flag waving at Shorecrest this morning? For the 23rd year, Shorecrest welcomed 15 students and two teachers from our sister-school the Lycée Pierre Bayen, in Châlons-en-Champagne, France. All of the students are living with Shorecrest families who have generously opened their homes, some for a second and even third time, to allow these French children to experience the life of an American teenager.

The "Frenchies" start the day in class with their American "brother" or "sister" and then go on an excursion to a nearby attraction. They visit places such as the Dali Museum, John's Pass, Ybor City, Sawgrass Park and more. On Friday morning they watched their knowledge of American history come to life in the third grade "American Dream" program. French students give back by visiting Middle School French class and hosting students from Shorecrest who wish to visit France.

The most important things are happening in the hallways of Landy Hall and in various Shorecrest homes. Shorecrest students are speaking French and French students are speaking English. Friendships are being forged. A deeper global awareness and understanding and appreciation of other cultures grows.

Here is a video clip of our visitors practicing their English at the airport before their trip.
