Experiential School Announcements

August 16, 2019
It has been a terrific start to the school year! The children have been enjoying playing, exploring materials, and learning about the people, places, and routines in our classroom community. It takes a few weeks for students to fully transition to school, so understand as they build endurance for the length and pace of this new day and the experiences it entails they may be tired and extra hungry. Starting on Monday, please send an extra snack from home.
SAGE provides students a morning snack of fruit or a vegetable at 9am and ES provides a gluten free, nut free, dairy free snack with it (pretzels, popcorn, veggie straws...) SAGE also provides lunch. Students who are hungry after rest time may have an extra snack from home if they would like to do so. Parents and guardians, please send in extra snack for your child in a snack bag labeled with your child’s name that they may eat either as a supplement to morning snack or after rest time if they are a full day student.
If your child is a full day student their blanket, sheet, and stuffed animal were sent home today. This weekend, please wash your child’s rest time things and send them back to school on Monday. If a change of clothes was needed for a potty or play accident, please replace the spare uniform, socks and shoes and make sure to label everything with your child’s name.
The energy and feeling in the Experiential School classrooms has been positive and happy these first few days. It is possible on Monday and even later in the week for students to cry upon transition to school. This is normal and the ES faculty and I expect to offer comfort and will help children and parents learn strategies and techniques that make this transition easier. You can call me if you would like to check in after a challenging drop off. Usually by the time the car is no longer in view and we turn the corner towards the classroom, teachers and friends, tears have stopped and children are ready to play. The teachers and I care about our students and will partner with you to find solutions if needed.
Enjoy the weekend with your child or children. I hope that they begin to share stories of their new adventures at school with you. Our journey together has begun and I look forward to a wonderful year filled with growth.
