On Monday, October 24, The Freedom Brass of the United States Air Force Band of the West visited Shorecrest Preparatory School and performed a brilliant one-hour concert for the Upper School. During the concert, they gave students historical background to the literature being performed and engaged students in meaningful dialogue concerning social-emotional health and team building. The group was an overwhelming success and received a standing ovation from students and faculty.
Later in the day, the group performed a one-hour Masterclass for select Middle and Upper School student musicians. In the Masterclass students learned how to set and achieve goals, practice with integrity and become better musicians. Students were also witness to a surprise trumpet trio with Mr. Updike and trumpets of The Freedom Brass.
Shorecrest would like to extend a warm thank you to The Freedom Brass for this memorable event!
Junior Hunter H. had this to say about the Masterclass:
"... I’ll add just one word to your describing of their marvelous performance: inspiring. Their professionalism, humor and extreme musical prowess represent everything a young musician could ever dream to be, and as one of them, being able to witness their music first hand was not only an honor – it was a genuine privilege. Mr. Updike, thank you so much for giving all of us this amazing opportunity."
