Exploring Color

Experiential School News

Young scientists explored colors during the first day of Exploring in Junior Kindergarten. Using pipettes, graduated cylinders, beakers and funnels with colored water provided practice in coordination, pouring and pinching, as well as lots of discoveries about volume and what happens when colors are mixed in varying amounts and depths.

The children in Alpha met Mat Man this week. Mat Man is a bridge to learning to write using the Handwriting Without Tears method. The Mat Man stories introduced the children to big line, little line, big curve and little curve, which can be used to create Mat Man’s body and creative designs and pictures - as well as upper case letters! The children had a grand time designing their own Mat people, which helps them develop an awareness of body structure that will extend to their drawings.
