The twice exceptional child: The impact upon the family and sensible strategies for success.

Join The Learning Center on Wednesday, November 2nd for a Lunch and Learn parent seminar in the SAC from 12-1pm. Dr. Lyman Dukes and Dr. Allison Messina will lead the session.

Is your child academically talented yet still exhibits signs of attention deficit or possible learning differences? Such children sometimes require more guidance and attention than a child that is simply labeled as ADHD or learning disabled. Additionally, there is an impact upon not only the child but also the entire family. Everyone in the family shares the time, effort, and stress experienced under these circumstances in some capacity.

We will share our personal experience guiding our twice-exceptional child and share strategies we've tried that have been effective, as well as some that haven't worked so well. Our conversation will be informal and amusing as we discuss the good and bad of daily life with an academically talented child with a learning disability.

Dr. Dukes is a Professor in Special Education at USF with 25 years of educational experience working with both adults and children. Dr. Messina is a pediatric infectious disease physician at John Hopkins All Children Hospital and parent of a twice-exceptional child.

We are expecting a large turn out, but please feel free to invite a parent from another school if they are interested in the presentation. Feel free to bring your lunch, dessert and coffee will be provided. Please RSVP to Tracie Belt to save your spot: [email protected].
