Please join us on Friday, November 11 at 12pm in the Student Activity Center. In his talk “Learning & The Brain”, Tom Dillow, Head of Upper School, will discuss some of the latest brain research on how students best learn, ways that Shorecrest puts that research into practice in the classroom, and some best practices for parents to use at home. Lunch is provided with RSVP.
Three of the books Mr. Dillow will reference in his SCA discussion are the Shorecrest faculty’s recent summer reading and recommended professional development resources, among them, “Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning,” “Whistling Vivaldi: How Stereotypes Affect Us and What We Can Do About It,” and “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.” According to Mr. Dillow, “A lot of it goes against conventional wisdom and the way we [parents and educators] have done things in the past.”
The discussion will address all stages of student learners, preschool-12th grade, with specific examples from Shorecrest school-wide. The full Shorecrest community is invited to attend. Please RSVP to reserve your space.
