Traveling Through Asia with Family and Friends

Experiential School News

The Junior Kindergartners continued their journey across the continents and focused on Asia, where stops in China, India and Israel were brought to life with the help of some family members and friends. Mr. Lu, whose family came from China, visited and taught the children to write numbers in Chinese calligraphy, while D. Moyles instructed and assisted the boys and girls in the art of eating noodles and orange sections with chopsticks.

Cooking egg rolls was part of learning about the culture and foods of China, and the children helped prepare the filling, which they then rolled in the wrappers. These were frozen and will be part of the lunch served on the upcoming Activity Day.

The following day, Mrs. Shah came and shared clothing, books and sculpture from India with the children. They particularly enjoyed making mandalas using the patterns and colored sand she brought for them to use.

In a room next door, with the help of our Web Developer Mrs. Darrow, the children learned about trees in the country of Israel, made Israeli flags and learned a traditional Israeli dance.
