Global Studies Greek Chorus

Upper School News

Studying history in Shorecrest Upper School is not simply the recitation of dates or the study of revolutions, wars, or the lives of kings and queens. History is also the study of cultures -- both ancient and modern. In view of this, Mr. Heller‘s Global Studies class used the novel "Circe" by Madeline Miller to learn about the integral role of the Greek chorus. Historically, this non-individualised ensemble of performers commented upon the main action of a play with song, dance, and recitation using a collective voice.

In preparation for their end of semester video project, the class recited in unison the Greek chorus from Medea by Euripides. This provided the students with a better understanding of how it was incorporated into ancient Greek Drama.
