Shorecrest School

Facing Forward

Head of School Letter

One of the activities I find most enjoyable is talking about Shorecrest. I take pleasure in telling people about the students, the program and the facilities, and describing the kind of relationships that exist between teachers and students that nurture a love of learning. I am constantly discovering new and exciting aspects about Shorecrest, which I can’t wait to share with others.

Last night’s Admissions Open House for Middle and Upper Schools was a great success, with one of the largest groups in recent years in attendance. The crowd included prospective families who came to learn about Shorecrest, as well as current Chargers families who wanted to hear about the experience for their children as they grow and mature into the next phase of their educational journey. Our previous Open House for Experiential and Lower Schools was a virtual function, which allowed visitors to attend from across the country and from around the world. We had families participating from London, New York City and Singapore!

As a PK3 through 12th grade school, we understand that families choose to recommit to Shorecrest on an annual basis. Looking ahead to our re-enrollment period of February 1-15, 2022, it is important that families are fully informed about what to expect for their children as they transition into new school divisions. Numerous current eighth graders have already taken advantage of the opportunity to shadow a ninth grader and explore life in the Upper School. The Middle School has a special event for fourth graders to introduce these students to life in fifth grade and talk with current Middle Schoolers. Kindergarten Orientation is designed to welcome JK families into the Lower School as they move up from the Experiential School. Our goal is to provide a glimpse into life at the next level, and provide some context of what the future holds for students at Shorecrest.

In addition to these events, we are introducing a new series called Facing Forward: What to Expect. On three Thursday evenings in January, current families with children of all ages are invited to join administrators from each division to learn about life in their school. These separate presentations will cover the academic and extracurricular programs in the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, and provide time for questions and answers. Facing Forward: What to Expect in Upper School will also include a general overview of the college counseling process. All are welcome at any of the presentations -- whether you have specific questions or are simply curious about what school will be like for your child years down the road. Look for dates and information in Ebytes and via social media.

We have a great school. We are proud of our teachers, staff and coaches, who challenge and support students throughout their childhood and adolescent development. And we are proud of our program, which prepares Chargers so well for college and beyond. I hope that you will take advantage of learning more about Shorecrest in the coming weeks.

All the best,

Nancy
