ES SPOTLIGHT: Takeya Trayer

Experiential School News


Takeya Trayer is an artist/educator with a special interest in early childhood education. She is a member of the faculty of The Experiential School as the arts specialist, or Atelerista. In this role she supports learning of visual arts, performing arts, music and dance, technology and more. She has also coached at Shorecrest. 

Ms. Trayer holds a Bachelor of Art in Fine Arts from St. Joseph’s University, an Associate of Science in Computer Animation from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and a master’s degree in Character Animation from the Academy of Art University. She has most recently been a preschool teacher at St. Pete Prep Learning Center. 

Ms. Trayer has two sons at Shorecrest, Aziz '28 and Kyerim '31.

We asked Takeya some get-to-know you questions:

Who is your hero?
My mother 

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?
My aunts and cousins used to call me TT or Keya

In the evening, would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie, or read?
Watch a movie in another language about a game with a relative while reading subtitles. Why choose one? 

Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why?
Alaska 

If you could go back in time, to when would you travel?
EGYPT when the pyramids were being started to see whose plan it was and how the pyramids were built. 

How would your friends describe you?
Fun, creative, kind, healthy, foodie

What are your hobbies?
Is there enough room here...?
Learning about technology that helps create music, animation, AR art, reading, biking, traveling, eating foods from other cultures, being in nature, going to the beach, building things, exercise, health and sustainability, learning language...

What is the best gift you have been given?
A yummy meal - Turkish Kaneefa 

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
Flying or breathing in water 

What's your favorite zoo animal?
Giraffe 

If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?
Wouldn’t that alter my present? 

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Underwater in a coral reef or cave 

What is your favorite thing about your career?
It is full of life, challenge, growth and learning about, with, and from little people. 

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a parent 

What makes you laugh the most?
My children/ being a parent
