Thank you to the International Connection volunteers for restoring the Global Readers program in ES this month. Global Readers volunteer to read an age appropriate, happy-ending, illustrated book in their language to Experiential School students. They have not been able to visit since 2019! This month the visitors were: Sebnem Koc (Türkiye), Savina Mintcheva (Bulgaria), Marianne Masvidal (Puerto Rico), Hanna Dahl (Norway), Gisa Bok Mollohan (Russia) and Head of the Experiential School, Adrianna Hollenbeck (Brazil).

"ES kids were the best listeners and gave such great feedback on the stories," Gisa shared. "We loved every second of it!"

Global Readers was designed to bring cultural awareness to students through stories. In addition to introducing students to some of the many languages spoken by Shorecrest families, the program also enhances reading skills, imagination, and perception of the world. Visitors also taught the young Chargers how to say 4 simple words in their language - for example hello, please, thank you, and goodbye - and briefly explained cultural nuances that appeared in the books they shared.
