State Championship Banners Revealed for Ahmad and Sonoma
On January 29, State Championship banners honoring Ahmad Crumity '25 and Sonoma Kasica '24 were revealed. Ahmad set a new school record and placed first in the Triple Jump at the 2023 Florida State Track & Field Meet. Sonoma placed first in Javelin at the same meet. It was the first time Shorecrest Chargers had two individual State Champions in the same year in track and field.
Coach McCall explained at the event, "During the meet Sonoma was hands down the best thrower, as she blew away the field and won the 1A State Championship in the javelin. It was her 3rd consecutive State Championship in that event. Sonoma entered the meet as the favorite to win and left no doubt as she dominated the field. Her teammate, Ahmad Crumity, displayed tenacity and grit as he captured the 1A State Championship in the triple jump. Unlike his teammate, he was not expected to dominate the field, but through his sheer determination and training, he used his last attempt of the meet to propel himself to a State Title!"
Head Track & Field Coach, Richie Cameron, added, "Earning an individual state title as a sophomore is a great accomplishment rarely seen on the male side of Track & Field. We are confident Ahmad will continue to build on this great achievement and have continued success in the upcoming season. We have all witnessed Sonoma become the best javelin thrower in the entire state of Florida under the skillful coaching of Mark Brown. She has the unique opportunity to begin her journey towards her fourth consecutive title, and we are confident she will rise to the challenge.”
Shorecrest celebrates these Chargers' great accomplishments and how well they represent the School when they compete. The State Championship banners will be a constant reminder for all who enter the Crisp Gym of their remarkable achievements.
